The Hong Kong Academy of Law organised a total of 83 seminars in October, 23 of which had an audience of over 100.
One of the 23 seminars was “Pro Bono Essentials – How to Identify and Manage Pro Bono Matters” on 12 October. Issues discussed included the definition of pro bono work, how to establish a pro bono practice for in-house legal team, and manage pro bono work matters in law firms. The speaker was Ms. Annette Bain, Pro Bono Counsel – Asia (New South Wales, Australia). The seminar attracted 125 participants.
Another was the “Seminar on the Updated Practice Direction P” on 29 October. The seminar apprised attendees of the key provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance, its application to lawyers and the updated Practice Direction P. The speakers were Mr. Alan Linning, Member of the Anti-Money Laundering Committee of the Law Society and Mr. Raymond Leung, Anti-Money Laundering Officer of Deacons. Over 150 participants attended the seminar.
