The Hong Kong Academy of Law organised 35 courses and seminars by webinars in October which were attended by over 2,700 participants.
One was the “RME Elective - Ethical Walls for Law Firms” held on 6 October. Mr. Eddy So, Partner of MinterEllison LLP briefed attendees on the legal, ethical principles, the common scenarios and practical steps relating to the establishment of ethical walls. He also discussed the considerations and limitations relating to the use of ethical walls to prevent communication of con dential information between staff members and teams of a law rm. This seminar attracted about 70 participants.
Another seminar was “RME Elective - Litigation Mistakes” held on 30 October delivered by Mr. Ludwig Ng, Solicitor Advocate and Partner of ONC Lawyers. He analyzed the claims against solicitors and law firms under the Professional Indemnity Scheme, and identified the risks in litigation and common mistakes. He also discussed a case to illustrate what can go wrong in litigation. The seminar attracted over 292 participants.
