The Law Society and the Hong Kong Academy of Law organised 39 courses in August with a total of 1,965 participants.
One of the 39 courses was “Stock Trading Policy for Law Firms” held on 23 August. The seminar discussed practitioners’ fiduciary duty pursuant to The Hong Kong Solicitors’ Guide to Professional Conduct to keep clients’ information confidential and act in their best interest. It also examined the relevant provisions under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, Cap. 571 on inside information and insider dealing. The seminar provided practical tips on devising the stock trading policy for law firms. Mr. Yu Cheuk Lun, Desmond, Partner of MinterEllison LLP was the speaker of the seminar. The course attracted 79 participants.
Another course was “Sharing Session on the External Mediation
Master Scheme” held on 28 August at the Jurors Assembly Room of the High Court.
The sharing session discussed Pilot Scheme on External Mediation Master Scheme (“EMM Scheme”). The EMM Scheme was implemented by the Judiciary in the District Court from January to September 2018 with the aim of facilitating settlement through mediation at case management summonses or conferences. The speakers presented the major findings on the Scheme to the participants and shared their experiences on the EMM Scheme as an EMM and as a lawyer. The speakers were the Honourable Mr. Justice Johnson Lam Man Hon, Chairman of the Working Party on Mediation, Master Dick Ho Chin Pang, Temporary Deputy Registrar, the High Court of Hong Kong, Mr. Lung Gwun Ting, Bryan, Accredited General Mediator, Family Mediator and Family Mediation Supervisor and Ms. Chan Wai Ling, Rejina, Partner of Winnie Leung & Co., Mrs. Cecilia Wong, Council Member of the Society was the moderator. The sharing session attracted 71 participants.
