The Annual Swimming Gala 2017, organised by the Law Society Swimming Team, was successfully held on 20 August. Despite it being one of the hottest days this summer, over 200 members, their children, and other family members supported the event to enjoy the summer splash. Among the children who competed in the 70+ individual events and relay events, was our youngest participant, who was only two years old.
The Swimming Gala has always been an occasion to nurture friendships among members’ families. This year, to further foster family and peer bonding, new arrangements were put in place. First, not only members’ children but also their grandchildren were invited to participate in the competitions. Second, an additional age group was added for the 4 x 50m Children’s Relay, comprising four swimmers whose total age was less than 20 years, in hopes of encouraging younger participants to take part in this competitive yet fun-filled relay event.
After the competitions, all those who completed their races were presented with certificates. The top three swimmers of each event were awarded medals and the overall champion of each gender and age group received a trophy. Record breakers of each event were awarded a certificate for their outstanding performance.
The Swimming Team would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Past President Ambrose Lam, Council Members Serina Chan and Roden Tong (also Vice Chairman of the Recreation and Sports Committee), for supporting the event and presenting prizes to the swimmers. We also extend our special thanks to Ms. Eliza Chang, Swimming Team Honorary Captain, for her professional advice throughout the preparation stage, and the Hong Kong University Swimming Team for their kind assistance in making the event a smooth and successful one.
If your child or grandchild is keen in swimming, do stay tuned for next year’s Swimming Gala!
