The Law Society has, since 2015, partnered with Hong Kong Council of Social Service (“HKCSS”) on their “NGOs Governance Platform Project” to promote best practices and sharing of experiences on NGO governance among board members of their NGO members.
On 20 April, our Pro Bono Committee (“PBC”) jointly organised a seminar titled “Fiduciary Duties and Legal Liabilities of NGO Directors”with HKCSS. Ms. Michelle Chow, member of PBC, was the speaker who introduced to the audience who are representatives from NGOs the different legal forms, fiduciary duties and legal liabilities of being an NGO director, as well as the protective strategies that organisations could undertake to help guard against potential risks and liabilities.
The seminar was well attended by 93 NGO representatives.
