As part of its commitment to helping ULaw students achieve their ambitions, the University held a mentoring and networking session on 16 November for their latest intake of students. It was held at the newly opened Legal Hub in Central, which is located in the West Wing of the former Central Government Offices (CGO), a Grade 1 historic building. This was a great opportunity for the students to see inside this heritage building and to meet legal professionals, many of whom are at the peak of their careers. A total of 31 student mentees and 31 mentors attended the event, which was a hybrid event of in person and online via zoom.
The event was opened by Professor Peter Crisp the Pro-Vice Chancellor, External of The University of Law, who gave a warm welcome to everyone as well as a big thank you to all the mentors who had taken time out of their busy schedules to assist in this very meaningful event. This was done via zoom. After Professor Peter Crisp had welcomed everyone, Maria Zenon, Senior Alumni Manager, addressed the attendees also via zoom to welcome those alumni who had come to help pass down their valuable experiences, as well as adding her heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended. More and more alumni in Hong Kong are re-engaging with the University and joining a, growing network of professionals.
After Maria’s remarks, Associate Professor Aruna Verma, the Programme Director of the Hong Kong Campus welcomed everyone, and a briefing was then given to both the mentors and mentees. The students were thrilled with this opportunity to engage with such senior professionals from the legal community and for them to guide them through entering the profession and which route to take. Even in such a short a space of time they said they had greatly enhanced their understanding and welcomed the opportunity.
Do look out for our upcoming Speaker Series and future events hosted by The University of Law.
