The Law Society signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Malaysian Bar in January 2016. Since then, both organisations have been working jointly on ways to foster collaboration among our respective members.
Led by the Malaysian Bar President, a delegation of 14 members visited Hong Kong on 12 September. Riding on this opportunity, the Law Society jointly organised a seminar entitled "Cross-border trade and investment opportunities between Hong Kong and Malaysia under the Belt and Road Initiative" with the Malaysian Bar. We were honoured to have representatives from the Malaysian Bar, the Consulate General of Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (HK and Macau) to speak at the seminar. It was well-attended by over 70 participants.
A productive meeting was also arranged between the two organisations to discuss possible collaboration in the nearer future.
The Law Society will continue to work closely not only with the Malaysian Bar but also with other ASEAN law associations to provide a platform for professional exchanges and business referrals for ASEAN lawyers.
A welcome dinner was hosted for the Malaysian Bar delegation.
The panel speakers shared their insights on the opportunities for Malaysian and Hong Kong lawyers to work together on trans-border matters and the development of cross-border legal practice under the Belt and Road Initiative at the seminar.
