On 25 October 2019, the Young Solicitors’ Group (“YSG”) hosted its “Meet the Practitioners Drinks Reception for Law Students” at the Law Society. The reception was well attended by over 60 law students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong, as well as around 20 general members. We were also grateful to have in our attendance President Melissa Pang, Vice-President Amirali Nasir, Past President Stephen Hung and Council Member Mr. Calvin Cheng.
The reception began with welcome remarks by President, followed by an evening of networking and mingling over light refreshments. The event offered an excellent opportunity for the law students to know about the work of the Law Society and activities organised by the YSG. Our practitioners also had an opportunity to share their experiences and advice with the new generation of the legal profession, with conversation topics ranging from tips for scoring a summer internship of choice, the challenges in securing a training contract, the ways to choose an area of practice as well as how to achieve work-life balance. The reception was also a good channel for the Law Society to gain candid insight on issues that occupy the minds of up-and-coming lawyers, and will help the YSG and the Law Society as a whole to better cater their services and programmes to serve the needs of junior practitioners in years to come.
Members and trainee solicitors who are interested in joining the event organised/arranged by the YSG, please feel free to visit http://www.hklawsoc.org.hk/pub_e/ysg, join our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/young.solicitorsgroup) or contact Assistant Director, Member Services at firstname.lastname@example.org.
