On 13 October, the Young Solicitors’ Group (“YSG”), with the support of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (“WKCDA”), organised a Joint Professional Networking event titled “Cantonese Opera: Beyond the Stage” together with the young members’ groups of various professional bodies including Hong Kong Bar Association, Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, The Hong Kong Institute of Planners, The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries, The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and The Hong Kong Medical Association.
Held at a trendy and hip co-working space situated in Wong Chuk Hang, the afternoon began with a fascinating introduction to the music, instruments and costumes used in Cantonese Opera by guest speaker Ms. Eliza Li Pui Yan, an American-born award-winning Cantonese opera performer, and moderated by Ms. Joanna Lee, who currently serves on the advisory board and jury of the International Opera Awards. Participants were also invited to go on stage to learn the movements of and the props used in Cantonese Opera.
The sharing session was followed by a mingling and networking session where participants were given the opportunity to interact with the speakers and to meet new friends from different professions.
This event followed a history of collaboration between the YSG and the WKCDA. In response to the interest of young members, the YSG will consider exploring more opportunities in the future to help members engage in the growing arts and culture scene in Hong Kong.
