The Hong Kong Academy of Law organised 31 courses and seminars by webinars in August which were attended by over 2,500 participants. 

One of the seminars was “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence in Law” delivered by Mr. Kevin Pereira, Managing Director of Blu Artificial Intelligence on 9 August. 

Mr. Pereira briefed attendees on the five branches of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”), namely machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, machine vision and robotic process automation. He also discussed the upcoming AI trends in law and shared his insights on how lawyers working with AI in future would look like. The seminar attracted over 290 participants. 

Another seminar was “The Impact of Innovative Technologies and Contemporary Practices in Healthcare on Medical Law; Shared Decision-making and Mediation” on 19 August. Topics discussed in the seminar included the future of law in medicine, explainable AI in healthcare, innovative therapies and treatment, decision making and mediation. The speakers were Mr. Terry Kaan, Associate Professor at the Department of Law of the University of Hong Kong (“HKU”), Dr. Calvin Ho, Associate Professor at the Department of Law and Co-Director of the Centre for Medical Ethics and Law of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Law of HKU and Dr. James Chiu, Hon. Clinical Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine of HKU. The seminar attracted over 130 participants.
